igus iglidur I150 – Self-Lubricating Tribo-Polymer

iglidur I150 is igus's entry-level tribo-polymer: self-lubricating, wear-optimized and rated for continuous use up to 90 °C. Food compliance partially documented (igus food-safe page, check application/color/batch); no separate RoHS/REACH document on file. Purpose-built for sliding and rotating parts – bearings, bushings, slide guides.

Compliance Evidence

~FDA

Partially documented – evidence via manufacturer documentation under defined conditions. No complete FDA certificate on file.

Evidence: igus describes iglidur I150 as a food-safe filament on its igus food-safe page. No explicit EU 10/2011 or FDA 21 CFR certificate on file. Check the specific application, color and batch. Evaluate the printed part separately.

This evidence applies to the filament/raw material per manufacturer documentation. The printed final part must be evaluated separately for regulated applications (food contact, HACCP, medical).

Material Profile

igus is the world market leader in plastic plain bearings. iglidur filaments bring this tribology expertise into FFF 3D printing: bearings and bushings that need no external lubrication because the lubricant is embedded in the polymer matrix.

How Do Self-Lubricating Tribo-Polymers Work?

iglidur materials contain firmly embedded solid lubricants (proprietary igus formula). Under frictional load, the material deposits a microscopic lubricating film on the mating surface:

  • Lower coefficient of friction than an unlubricated standard polymer (~0.1–0.2 vs. ~0.4–0.6)
  • Even wear instead of peak loads and cold welding
  • Maintenance-free: no lubrication downtime in automated production

igus Tribo-Database

igus operates one of the world’s largest tribological test labs. For iglidur I150, documented PV values (pressure × velocity) are available for various mating materials – a unique design basis compared to generic FFF materials.
